The EVD Evolution is a driver for regulating electronic expansion valves with bipolar stepper motors. In combination with the ExV electronic expansion valves, Carel can provides a complete solution for almost any application in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning technology. With the fast and extremely precise regulation of refrigerant superheating in the evaporator and compatibility with all conventional refrigerants, the combination of the EVD Evolution and the Carel ExV electronic expansion valve optimises the efficiency of the entire refrigeration circuit within the application which results in considerable energy savings. Furthermore, the ready-to-use and configurable software on the EVD Evolution offers numerous additional options for the entire system (e.g. practical refrigerant pressure and temperature functions for protecting the compressors or the entire system, special functions for hot gas bypasses, evaporating pressure and CO2 applications).

The EVD Evolution is available in various variants. As a single driver it controls one connected valve. As a twin driver it controls two valves independently of one another. The EVD Evolution Universal can be used as a valve position controller with an external signal (e.g. 0-10 volt or 4-20 mA) or it can control an electronic expansion valve from a different manufacturer (valve characteristics for many other manufacturers are supplied with certain models - manufacturers and models on request). The EVD Evolution operates independently or can be connected to a parent Carel unit (e.g. pCO, PlantVisorPRO). Configuration and programming is done via a removable display that does not need to be attached during normal operation (optional) or via a PC/laptop using the Carel VPM software (USB interface accessory required). Only 4 parameters need to be configured to start using the controller:

  • The refrigerant being used
  • The valve model being used

  • The pressure transducer / sensor

  • Application characteristics (e.g. cold water unit with scroll compressor, cold water unit with screw compressor, refrigeration unit with integrated compressor, combined refrigeration units, etc.)

Configuring these parameters automatically sets all other parameters to the required values. All controller parameters can also be defined by the user.
